Restarting Canopy after "Unexpected error ParseError"

There is a known bug in the current release of Canopy that will prevent users from starting/restarting the application, instead Canopy displays the (rather unhelpful) error:

Unexpected error ParseError:Invalid line at line "1"

Solution:

The error is due to a corrupted Canopy preferences file that was mishandled when the application exited or crashed. The file will need to be removed before Canopy will start. We are please to note that this bug has been fixed in Canopy 1.2, due to be release at the beginning of December.

In the meantime, please delete the "preferences.ini" file located at:

Windows:

%APPDATA%\Enthought\Canopy

OSX or Linux:

~/.canopy
